Spring Bubbles

I created this window display for Strut on Guadalupe in Austin TX eartlier this year for the Spring.  I made most of the backrground from yarn (colors inspired by the Pantone, of course), but the picture wasn't taken until closer to Fall, hence the mannequins rockin' the moto jackets.

Neiman Marcus' Jewelry Display

This is one of the most visually striking display photographs I've seen in a long time.  It reminds me of a hotel set-up with two beds & a little study separating them.  It's definitely a creative way to display jewelry, and I think whoever came up with the concept is extremely talented.  link

BARNEYS Celebrates 20 Yrs of Christian Louboutin

To celebrate 20 yrs of Christian Louboutin, Barney's created one of my new favorite window displays of all time at their Madison Avenue location in NYC.  You could watch a video of the process of creation here.  For anyone interested in the intricacies of window display installations, it's worth the three minutes to watch these artisans at work.

Personal Work: Navajo Inspired Window Display

I finally finished the window display for the Strut location in San Marcos.    I spent quite a bit of time editing this one, but in the end I was happy with the outcome.

I cut large strips of white banner paper to create the hanging tapestry's.  Then, I painted the paper with a color I found in a magazine.  I got several dowel rods and stained them.  I then carved triangles out of wood & painted them different colors (inspired by the Fall Pantone Color Trends).  I got a few bags of perfectly contrasting colored feathers and hot glued them to create the ends of the arrows.

I had a few saved wine bottles that I decided to paint with acrylics.  I'd also inherited a few leftover scraps of fabric that made for perfect labels to be glued on top.  The roses & vase were found objects that added a nice touch.

The geometric wood decor had been previously placed in the window.  I thought that it fit with the concept, so I simply added strips of color (all in the same hue) by cutting ribbon and wrapping it around various parts of the decor.

The forms were then styled in a cohesive manner.

To Read:

 Written by Todd Selby:
As I was walking through a favorite local bookstore, I came across this book in the art/design department & couldn't help but skim through it.  It's basically a book peeking into various artist's homes.  My favorite part was learning about Karl Lagerfeld & the enormous amount of books he surrounds himself with:

Too Perfect:

Nespresso Norway is a specialty coffee manufacturer who won a display award by VMSD earlier this year for mixing fashion & coffee (two things that I love) in design.  These mannequins are too perfectly whimsical!  Their abstract heads are supposed to portray the foam on top of cappucinos or lattes.   link
